I assume he died before 1870 because his wife is living with one of the sons in the 1870 census. I assume he died in Wisconsin, because I can't find him in the Barnes Twsp or Clay County cemetery books. Also, not buried next to wife.

William married Margaret Jenkins, daughter of Jenkins and Unknown. (Margaret Jenkins was born on 25 February 1807 in , , , Wales, died on 14 December 1883 in , Clay County, Iowa and was buried in December 1883 in Douglas Twsp., Clay County, Iowa.)
